Stiki
After a number of unsuccessful attempts at creating a Statto-JTA Publishing wiki-based encyclopædia, I finally managed it today, by programming my own entirely from scratch using PHP.
In the process, I’ve learnt all about regular expressions and Apache rewrite rules. Well…I’ve looked at examples and re-hashed them for myself, anyway.
There are two exciting consequences of this:
- There’s a soon-to-be-working “Stiki” section of the site, at www.ktab.co.uk/stiki. If I can raise JTA to give me a hand writing a bit, and correct all the ridiculous number of bugs, anyway…
- Through my learning about rewrite rules and the consequences of them for the already-existent ktab.co.uk engine (or rather, making a poor-quality hackish workaround), this ‘blog finally has proper archive URIs. Fascinating.
Preemptive apologies to anyone hoping to edit the StikiPædia themselves; one of the many issues I had with both the MediaWiki and Wikka Wikki was preserving my tyrannical editorial control over it by preventing any old muggins from editing it. I also loathe CamelCase WikiWords for linking.
If you want a proper wiki which hasn’t merely been created for the convenience and novelty, then I suggest Wikipedia, or (for Aberystwyth students past and present) the ever-loveable RockMonkey.
When it’s not got more bugs than an aphid-infested magic beanstalk, I think I shall release Stiki as an open-source content management tool. At worst, I lose nothing. At best, someone competent comes and re-writes the whole thing for me…
